Danube Commission hosts the Danube Ports Days 2024: Navigating Towards Sustainable Multimodality
On 29 and 30 October the Danube Commission hosted the Danube Ports Days 2024 in Budapest. The event was organized by ProDanube, with support from EU-funded projects MultiRELOAD, Green Inland Ports Study and SYNERGETICS and the Danube Ports Network.
The two-day event offered policymakers, stakeholders, industry leaders, and experts the opportunity to engage in enriching debates over innovative solutions to achieve climate neutrality within inland ports in particular and inland waterway transport (IWT) in general.
Participants were presented with key European projects and initiatives in the field of IWT, with a focus on modal shift to eco-friendly transportation, emission insights, and green energy solutions. Also, cutting-edge digitalization tools and strategies are transforming port operations across Europe.
The Danube Commission has been increasingly active in promoting sustainability and innovation within the sector, by coordinating and hosting activities bringing together stakeholders from ports, inland navigation community, member states representatives in the framework of the technical assistance agreement (Grant 3) which was concluded between the European Commission/DG MOVE and the Danube Commission in 2022. Bringing stakeholders together is a step forward for the further development of inland navigation on the Danube River.
