Accident – boat collision
Wednesday evening, 29 May 2019, at 9.05 p.m. after dark, the river cruise vessel “Viking Sigyn” collided with a day trip vessel “Hableány” at the section of the Margit Bridge (downtown Budapest) during a downpour and a high water level in the Danube River. Due to the collision, the vessel “Hableány” turned over and sank.
There were reportedly 35 people on board the vessel “Hableány“, including 31 tourists from South Korea, two crew members – citizens of Hungary and two tour guides from South Korea.
According to preliminary information, 7 people died, 7 people were slightly injured and hospitalized. Competent authorities are searching for 21 missing people, including two crew members. The rescue operation is underway.
