Plovput celebrated 60 years of successful work

On 6 October 2023, the Directorate for Inland Waterways of the Republic of Serbia (Plovput) celebrated 60 years of successful work and existence. The event took place at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in Belgrade and included also a meeting of the board of directors of the Inland Navigation Europe (INE), which made Belgrade a meeting place for directors of river administrations from many European countries.

The event was attended by more than 100 participants from the business sector, river administrations, shipping companies, as well as institutions and organisations from the Danube region. The DC Secretariat was represented by Mr Dejan Trifunovic.

The establishment of the Plovput sixty years ago can be described as an important element for competitive and sustainable management of the waterways in the Danube basin.

In his address to the meeting, the representative of the Secretariat of the Danube Commission expressed his appreciation of the work and achievements of the Plovput, an institution of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, responsible for the maintenance and development of the inland waterways in the Republic of Serbia on which international and interstate navigation regimes apply (Danube, Sava and Tisza). The work and contribution of the Plovput is essential in ensuring and improving navigation conditions on the Danube and the Sava as an important part of the waterway network in the Danube Region.

The fruitful cooperation between the Secretariat of the Danube Commission and Plovput also takes place in the framework of the annual Expert Group Hydrotechnology (EG HYD), where the waterway administrations present their annual work programmes for the maintenance of the navigation channel as well as the status of sustainable river engineering projects envisaged to achieve the recommended parameters of the navigation channel and other facilities on the Danube.

On behalf of the DC Secretariat, the director of Plovput, Mr Aleksandar Pantelic was presented the DC medal, while the DC Secretariat was presented with the Certificate of Appreciation for many years of successful cooperation.
